The Eleventh Hour

The Brevity of Time

Did you know that the average global life expectancy is 71 years? That’s 25,932 days. Over 1/3 of that time will be spent sleeping. You will spend an average of five years waiting in lines and six of those months will be spent behind red lights.

The days of your life are like grains of sand falling through an hour glass. In Ephesians 5:16 Paul writes, “Redeem the time because the days are evil.” Do you see the evil in the world? There is a desperate need in this hour to lay hold of the time that God has given us. Our days are numbered. James 4:14 says, “Life is like a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” This life is short. Your time on earth is exceedingly precious. Time is the most valuable commodity that you cannot obtain more of.

After your last breath you will stand before Jesus Christ to give an account for every second of your life. Our lives are going to be replayed on the screen of eternity at the Judgment Seat. Nothing will be hidden. Even the secret thoughts and intentions of the heart will be made known. What do you think will last on that day? Maybe you worked hard to obtain a college degree and became a career success that enabled you to sustain yourself and travel the world. You saved enough money to buy the best house and drive the nicest car—no that counts for nothing!

Everything that held no eternal weight is going to burn up on that day. How much time is spent in His presence anticipating the day that He reveals His heart to you? Did you even know Him with such little time spent? Was there a desire in your heart to seek His face and be found hidden in Him? Were you at all compelled to tell others of His love, mercy, and saving grace and warn them of the day when Christ will judge the world in perfect righteousness? These things matter most. Our lives are going to pass before us in the twinkling of an eye. Make every second count for Christ.
